Takashi TAKAHASHI

Dear the respected members of Japanese Society for Clinical Microbiology (JSCM), and dear all who are viewing our website,

I am Takashi TAKAHASHI (from KITASATO Univ.), and it is a great honor for me to assume the role of President for the 37th General Meeting of JSCM. Along with the Vice President, Noriyuki NAGANO (from SHINSHU Univ.), I am now preparing and forwarding the opening of this 37th General Meeting.
I would like to talk about the long-time history of JSCM. In January 1990, the JSCM was established under the policy that society members should perform the academic studies regarding Clinical Microbiology (CM)/Infectious Diseases (ID)-associated tests and promote the advances in its technologies, to contribute to the improvement of individual and public health conditions. At the first General Meeting (in Tokyo), there was fruitful discussion of "what the CM researchers/technicians should expect from the ID doctors and feedback to them" .
Thereafter, in May 2009, the JSCM 20th anniversary memorial issue was published. Of this issue, the first Chairperson of the Board, Kihachiro SHIMIZU, described his thoughts concerning "Science for Science" and "Science for Society". As you know, "Science for Science" is meaning Basic Microbiology. In contrast, "Science for Society" is meaning CM. This "Science for Society" can work as a practical science: the significance in CM is being enhanced in the communities increasingly.
Recently, using the updated technologies, the advanced CM/ID-associated tests contributing to clinical benefits are being introduced into clinical settings. Additionally, there is a significance in communications among medical professionals. Hence, there is also further discussion needed of "what the ID doctors should expect from the CM researchers/technicians and feedback to them".
Based on these historical findings and my thoughts, the theme for the 37th General Meeting is "Advanced Partnership between Clinicians & Microbiologists: Learn & Enjoy at Venue". The Clinicians include the non-ID/ID doctors. The Microbiologists include the laboratory researchers/technicians. As two Chairpersons of the Scientific Committee members, we invited Nobuaki MORI (from SHOWA Medical Univ.) corresponding to the Clinician and Kenichi Shizuno (from CHIBA KAIHIN Municipal Hosp.) corresponding to the Microbiologist.
This is the first trial of the General Meeting held in Makuhari/Chiba prefecture for long-time history of JSCM. I wish to result in the great success of the 37th General Meeting. Therefore, I would like to deeply appreciate receiving their supportive collaborations for the General Meeting from JSCM members in future.
Thank you so much for viewing my messages on this site.
